AMCOMP AND AICPCU/IIA PARTNER ON COURSE WAIVER FOR INSURANCE DESIGNATION
Program Overview, General
NEW YORK, NY, June 2004 -- In a recent decision recognizing the strength of the educational curriculums of two prominent industry organizations, the American Society of Workers Comp Professionals (AMCOMP), together with the American Institute for CPCU and the Insurance Institute of America (AICPCU/IIA), have announced course waivers for certified professionals in one organization who seek certification in the other.
Those seeking certification as an AMCOMP Workers Compensation Professional (WCP) must complete a three-part course requirement. Part One provides an overview of insurance, the major portion of which is based on materials that were developed and introduced by AICPCU/IIA for its CPCU 520 course. Part Two of AMCOMP’s certification program focuses on the field of workers compensation, and Part Three encompasses performance management, federal and state laws, and presents articles and papers on evolving trends in the field.
Given the overlap of information provided in the two courses, candidates for the CPCU designation who hold the WCP designation can ask for a waiver of the CPCU 520 course. Similarly, those candidates for the WCP designation who hold the CPCU designation can ask for a waiver of the AMCOMP Part One curriculum.
“The acceptance of the AMCOMP curriculum by CPCU marks an important milestone in the growth and recognition of AMCOMP as an educational force in the industry,” said Thomas C. Schell, CPCU, and AMCOMP founding board member. In addition, Donald T. DeCarlo, AMCOMP Chairman and President stated, “We are very pleased with this partnership, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the AICPCU/IIA. We continue to strive to maintain the integrity and degree of excellence in workers compensation by raising the professional standard of practice.”
According to Christine L. Lewis, Ph.D., CPCU, CLU, Senior Vice President for AICPCU/IIA, “AMCOMP’s use of our CPCU 520 course materials is an important step in helping to standardize high levels of continuing education for professionals in the insurance industry. We also hope that through this partnership those holding a CPCU designation will be encouraged to broaden their knowledge to include expertise in workers compensation.”
